Disclaimer

Cape Crazy is a commentary and satire website covering news, public events, government activity, crime reports, community issues, wildlife, traffic, and the general collection of unusual things that happen in and around Cape Coral, Florida.

Our articles may include sarcasm, humor, opinion, parody, and editorial commentary in addition to factual information obtained from publicly available sources.

Sources and Accuracy

We make a reasonable effort to base factual statements on reputable sources, including local news organizations, government agencies, police and fire departments, public records, court records, official social-media accounts, and other publicly available information.

Whenever practical, the original source or sources used for an article are identified or linked within the story.

That said, sources can contain errors, information can change after publication, and we can occasionally get something wrong ourselves.

If you believe an article contains a factual error, incorrect attribution, outdated information, misleading statement, or other material inaccuracy, please contact:

admin@capecrazy.com

Please include:

  • the title or URL of the article;
  • the specific statement you believe is incorrect;
  • what you believe the correct information to be; and
  • a source, document, or other information supporting the requested correction when available.

We will review reasonable correction requests as promptly as practicable. Our goal is to acknowledge substantive requests within 2 business days and, when verification is reasonably possible, make any appropriate correction, clarification, update, or other response within 5 business days.

Complex requests, requests involving public records, or matters requiring additional verification may take longer.

If we determine that a material factual error has been published, we may correct or update the article and, when appropriate, identify that a correction or clarification was made. Prompt and transparent corrections are a standard journalistic practice.

Requests to Remove Content

Cape Crazy does not automatically remove accurate, lawfully published material simply because someone dislikes it or finds it embarrassing.

However, we will consider reasonable requests involving:

  • significant factual inaccuracies;
  • mistaken identity;
  • information that creates an unnecessary safety or privacy concern;
  • developments that substantially change the accuracy or fairness of an older story; or
  • other exceptional circumstances.

Removal requests should be sent to admin@capecrazy.com with the article URL and an explanation of the request.

Depending on the circumstances, we may choose to correct, update, anonymize, clarify, or remove material. Content-removal decisions are made case by case.

Crime, Arrests and Allegations

An arrest, charge, investigation, lawsuit, citation, accusation, or police report does not establish guilt or liability.

When reporting on allegations, Cape Crazy attempts to clearly distinguish between allegations, charges, reported facts, and proven findings. Individuals accused of crimes are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Commentary and Satire

Some statements on Cape Crazy are intentionally exaggerated, humorous, sarcastic, rhetorical, or opinion-based.

Headlines, captions, illustrations, featured images, and commentary may use humor to characterize the circumstances surrounding a real event. They should not necessarily be interpreted as literal statements of fact.

The fact that we think something is crazy does not make it legally, medically, politically, financially, scientifically, spiritually, emotionally, or meteorologically crazy.

That part is up to you.

Hence the vote.

Images and Illustrations

Some images appearing on Cape Crazy are illustrations, composites, satirical graphics, or AI-generated artwork created to accompany an article.

Unless specifically identified as documentary photography, these images should not be interpreted as photographic evidence of the event described.

Third-Party Content

Cape Crazy may link to third-party websites, news organizations, government pages, social-media posts, videos, or other outside sources.

We do not control those websites and are not responsible for their accuracy, availability, privacy practices, later edits, or content.

A link or citation does not necessarily mean Cape Crazy endorses every statement made by that source.

Opinions Are Our Own

Commentary appearing on Cape Crazy represents the opinion or editorial perspective of the site or identified author.

You are welcome to disagree.

In fact, we built a voting system specifically because Cape Coral residents have demonstrated a remarkable ability to disagree about almost anything.

No Professional Advice

Nothing published on Cape Crazy should be considered legal, medical, financial, engineering, public-safety, or other professional advice.

For important decisions, consult someone who actually knows what they’re doing.

We are mostly here documenting the chaos.
